About Us

The Valley of Dayton

The Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite (AASR), Valley of Dayton, is a fraternal organization dedicated to building better men, families, and communities. Our journey is rooted in history and guided by purpose. As part of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, we are one of the region's largest Scottish Rite Valleys, serving Freemasons across fourteen counties in west-central Ohio. The Scottish Rite is an appendant body of Freemasonry open to all Master Masons who wish to continue their Masonic education and service. We live by core values such as Reverence for God, Devotion to Country, Integrity, Justice, Tolerance, and Service to Humanity, which guide our work in philanthropy and fellowship. We provide a fraternal home for our members and support the community through charitable activities, including the Dayton Children's Dyslexia Learning Center and scholarships for students in the Miami Valley.

Our Story

The Valley of Dayton is a local chapter of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, providing a continuation of the Masonic journey for Master Masons in the Dayton, Ohio, area. Based out of the historic Dayton Masonic Center, the Valley's mission is to inspire and engage members through its core values and fraternal fellowship.

Core activities and values

  • Continuation of the Masonic journey: As one of the two branches of Freemasonry for Master Masons, the Scottish Rite offers 29 additional degrees (4° through 32°) that explore the philosophical teachings of the blue lodge in greater depth.

  • Core values: The organization emphasizes living by its core values: Reverence for God, Devotion to Country, Integrity, Justice, Tolerance, and Service to Humanity.

  • Dramatic degrees: During "Valley Reunions," members present the Scottish Rite degrees as dramatic plays complete with costumes, props, and lighting to illustrate the order's teachings.

  • Charitable work: The Valley supports Masonic charities, including a long-running national research program into the causes of schizophrenia.

  • Community involvement: Members put their values into action by supporting other members in need and organizing events to serve their local community.

Meet The Team

The Valley of Dayton operates out of the Dayton Masonic Center, a registered national historic site that opened in 1928. The temple is also home to other fraternal organizations and is supported by the volunteer work of its members. The public is sometimes invited to events at the center, such as the annual Chapter of Sorrow's Easter Pageant.
